Share Your Family Recipe

Mais, what’s cooking in your family’s pot?

The best Cajun recipes were never written in a fancy cookbook. They live on index cards splattered with roux, in the margins of church cookbooks, and in the heads of the folks who stir the pot every Sunday. A “handful” of this, cook it “till it looks right.” That’s the cooking we want to keep alive.

Send us the gumbo, sauce piquante, smothered pork chops, fig preserves, or couche-couche your family has made for generations, plus the story behind it. Who taught it to you? What’s the one trick nobody outside the family knows?

We read every one. The recipes we feature run in our From Our Readers’ Kitchens series, credited to you by first name and hometown (and to whoever taught you, if you’d like).
